Identification HMI Platform
Our Identification HMI platform combines ddm hopt+schuler’s expertise in contactless input for Human Machine Interfaces (HMI). Contactless interfaces are becoming more common in everyday life, simplifying user interaction across various applications. These versatile input options enhance convenience and efficiency.
Functions & Technologies
For contactless-based HMI systems, we at ddm hopt+schuler can offer a comprehensive modular system to customize a corresponding HMI system precisely to its application. Contactless entry options for identification include our RFID/NFC readers, QR/barcode readers and, in the future, biometric-based readers. In the RFID/NFC area in particular, it is very important that the necessary protocols for ISO14444 A and B can be read. We have already integrated many protocols as standard, including Mifare Classic, Desfire, Ultralight, Apple VAS and Google Wallet (Smart Tab). Apple and Google are currently being integrated, with the aim of finalizing this by the end of 2024.
Our systems enable contactless-based payment transactions or identification via credit or debit cards (Mastercard, VISA, American Express and Discover). Input via gestures or voice can also be used as contactless input media. In addition, our HMI systems offer audio and visual feedback such as LEDs, displays, buzzers or more extensive loudspeakers to confirm the contactless-based input to the user.
With our broad expertise, we develop and design the right solution together with our customers: this usually starts with the selection of the medium for contactless input. Based on this, the complete architecture is developed in order to design the right HMI. Depending on the application, our input components can be supplemented and expanded with appropriate peripherals such as (touch) displays, connectivity (4G, WLAN, Bluetooth) and haptic-based input elements such as switches/encoders. The choice of interface is also fully configurable - from bus-based interfaces to communication via Ethernet or serial interfaces. In addition, the interface to the host can also be configured via WLAN.
Applications
Our contactless HMI systems are used in diverse sectors such as public transport, EV charging, parking systems, and other applications requiring seamless contactless interaction (e.g., bike parking, parcel lockers, car washes).
With flexible configuration options, we provide tailored HMIs for everything from fully integrated EV chargers to rugged, IP66 and IK10-protected car wash panels.
From components to complete HMI system
One of our notable projects was with a manufacturer of street furniture such as bicycle parking systems and bus shelters. Initially interested in our 881 RFID reader for access control, our customer encountered challenges developing a full system.
We were asked to develop and produce the complete HMI system. The system had to be able to read RFID cards and tickets (Mifare) as well as QR/barcodes. It was to include a display to show information to the user. The interface to the host was handled via a serial interface, and I/Os were also integrated so that an external PinPad could be connected. Appropriate proximity sensors help to reduce power consumption by putting the HMI into sleep mode when not being interacted with. Our customer now receives a completely finished and tested plug & play system that takes care of all user identification. Our 991 contactless hybrid reader served as the basis for this project.
