Future-proof HMI solution for Mayer & Cie
The success of the customized display encoder 582
Mayer & Cie, a globally leading manufacturer of circular knitting machines, stands for outstanding quality and technological excellence. As a pioneer in the industry, the company continuously seeks advanced solutions to optimize its machine controls and meet the growing demands of the HMI market.
To achieve this, Mayer & Cie required a state-of-the-art Human-Machine Interface (HMI) solution to enhance the complex control of their knitting machines. The requirements included not only powerful and reliable technology but also the integration of multiple functions into a single system, fast development times, and flexibility for future adaptations.
The solution came in the form of the rotary encoder with display 582. This innovative display encoder features high-performance hardware, including 1 Gbit of memory and a ring illumination system with 12 RGB LEDs. These features provide precise control of the machines and an intuitive user experience. Additionally, the solution integrates a detent switch 450 and two push switches 427 to simplify operation. Communication is handled via a custom CAN-Open bus, ensuring seamless and efficient data transfer.
One of the standout features of the Industrial Encoder with Display 582 is its embedded systems programming, including a bootloader that allows for updates and system optimizations. The product supports a range of advanced functionalities such as touch sense, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and indirect ring illumination, making it ideal for applications like Rotary Encoder with LCD Display, Rotary Encoder with Touch Display, and Encoder with Visual Feedback. It is also perfectly suited for systems requiring a 20x4 LCD Menu with Rotary Encoder or a Rotary Angle Encoder and Remote Display.
Notably, five different products from ddm were integrated into the system, transforming it from a single component into a comprehensive and functional solution. This holistic approach ensures that the product meets even the most demanding requirements of modern HMI applications.
The implementation of the Rotary Encoder LCD Menu 582 not only exceeded Mayer & Cie's expectations but also set new standards in the development of button / switch systems. With a rapid project turnaround in just four months and a comprehensive, flexible solution, we further strengthened our partnership with Mayer & Cie. The new control solution is now a critical component of their machines and supports future innovations.
This project highlights our ability to deliver customized solutions and solidifies our position as a partner for advanced HMI and embedded systems technologies.
